Shocked
So ,I bought 2 days ago 2 kakarikis(Jolie and Maya) ...and the Man to the Petshop told me that they are female...but not sure and I don't know they are still not so active allways and they eat a lot :)) and they are silent most of the time...are they still shy or???.....they come to my hand and this is not a problem but they are silent still :)and i want just to know if this is normal?!
The second problem....I let them allways the food to them(because i see they eat often) or just i take it from them and I put the food when I see that they are hungry and to deserve it???
And one more .....I let them to fly yesterday out from them ,,house,, and I saw that they fly without orientation and crazy .....not soft and carefully ....so how to make in a way to ,,learn ,,them to fly soft and nice and not later to break a neck or something else?....the man from where I bought them told me that they are 8 weeks ...so still babies a little bit :)...i think...so please help me somebody!
Thank you

Welcome to our community here

Not being familar with kakariki and both being the same sex, it can be difficult...post a front on pic of the head and beak (use the attachment function at the bottom of the post when reply)

and they are silent most of the time.
young birds tend to be more quiet

Keep a vareity of fresh veg/friut avalible at all times in small quantanties...we supply fresh food morning and evening and fruit during the day...the amount you will establish by how much and what is left over next time you feed...
See this thread on what to feed

This is due to them getting their bearings around the room, and also they are young. While they are new to the enviroment and young if they hit a mirror or window, at slow speed the chances of damage is slim...it is when birds are in full flight as adults or paniced that mirrors and windows can be a problem....they learn very quick.
Net curtians over windows is a good idea.

Have a look at their eyes, is there a red or orange iris? this devaloped about 2 weeks after they emerge from the nest and are ready to learn to fly.

I see English is not you 1st language, to help out, to the left is a "quick search" box, at the bottom a translater to put the web site into several languages
Also below a "translate txt" that you can use to translate txt back and forth

Hi Tory w3c to the site. By the looks you have a male and a female. I would guess they are brother and sister if they are from the same shop. I would love to have some that looked like them. Cheers Kev

Hi Tory i would say it is the one you call Mayo. It looks to like it has a bigger beak and more red on head. Just for interest sakes how much did you pay. They are worth thousands of Australian dollars here in Australia. Cheers Kev

Hi Cattscapes,
Maya...or Mayo :)))))))...she is the silent one ,she kiss me and she is soft, smiling to me and very shy......and the another one Jolie, she is a little bit more selfish....she bites me ,and she is not soft ...also more Jolie she sing in the morning and i see her like she is the man :)))
I paid for them 550 € with all the house of them...a big house and lovely .....a little bit expensive here in Germany...but they are just beautiful and they are from one mother .You think they must to be more expensive or more cheap?...why you pay so much money in Australia for this birds?

550 Eur 911 = $aus 911 = $NZ 1,036

There is a currency converter under the clock/international time zone converter to the left.

That depends if "normal" is what is generally accepted...seed...
Normal is about 3x more veggies than seed...with fruit

This is not normal...kakariki are very active, all day accept mid afternoon when the prune

Have you checked for worms? have they been wormed?
