My cinamon hen is slowly changing colour. Over the last month or so she has gone more what I understand is known as pied and has a lot of lighter, almost yellowish colurs now. Anybody any experience with this phenomena? Think

Hi Bertman it sounds like you have a mottled hen. These start out as a cinnamon bird and they slowly change to yellow over 12 to 18 months. This also happens in the greens but they seem to only go about 50 to 75% yellow. Do you know the history of the bird ? Cheers Kev

Thanks Kev,
I have had the little girl for about 6 months now and she is probably about close to a year old now. Mottled is not the same as pied? Will she turn completely yellow? I have seen pictures of those birds, they are absolutely beautiful! Will her ofspring also turn yellow over time?
Regards, Bert

Hi Bert mottled is not the same as pied but it will show up in normal and pied birds. With your bird being cinnamon it will probably go yellow over a couple of moults. If your bird is mottled you will need a cock that is at least split to mottled if you want mottled babies. Even then it is a long process in working out whats going to change and what wont. Try and post a picture of your hen is the best way to be shore. Cheers Kev
