My female kakariki Maya she made today her first egg but on the bottom of the cage! ....and i still don't have a nest box.......i can buy it but just in 3 days because the shops will be close untill then.......it's a problem if i will move later the eggs(will be 2 or 3 eggs) to a nest box?...or just to let it like this or what i should make?
I would try it. Kakariki are the most flexible birds I know. But before introducing a nestbox I would gently remove the egg(s) and keep them in a save place.
After introducing the nestbox I would wait to reintroduce the removed eggs. Give the birds the possibility to fit up their nest. I think it is a good idea to wait until the female lays an egg in the nestbox before putting back the removed eggs.
If she continues to lay eggs on the bottom of the cage then put it back with the removed eggs in the nestbox.
:) so i removed the egg......and after 2 days they will have them nestbox ,then i will let them to be used with it and then i will put the eggs removed in the nestbox :)...like this ,yep?
hi again.
From Saturday till today (Tuesday) my girl Maja she didn't made any egg......Saturday she made the first one in her life...but since then she haven't made a second egg...is this a problem or is it normal or something else?
For young birds, my experience is that this is quite normal - they might lay one egg, then another one a few days later, off and on. Also, the fact that you don't have a nesting box in there will also hold her back a bit - don't be surprised if when the box does go in that she is busy in the nest but doesn't lay any eggs - and again, when she does, it will be spasmodically to begin with. Young birds also tend to have a higher rate of infertile eggs - don't write her off as being a 'dud' after the first batch of eggs - plenty of our birds have gone on to become excellent breeders after a shaky start.
