So i had to kakarikis that had paired and where mating but one of the kakarikis got mites so i removed her and put her in one of my big cages. i leaving here in there til the mites are gone because she has lost quite a few feathers.

i then removed 2 of my karikis male and female ofcourse into another one of my large cages.

i was just wondering the male that i have put in with this new female had already paired with the female with mites. will the male forget and pair with the new female?

thanks guys and gals also is there any time frame of how long it should take.

Both birds should have been treated for mites together, and the flight cleaned down and treated (we spray flights with 50/50 soln vinegar and water)
Mites can be rather infectious

If they had paired, or started to, then trying to pair off woth another m8, can take a long time, espec if the other bird is still in hearing distance.

The best bet would have been to treat the orginal pair and left them to it.

Also to treat for mites every 10 to 12 days for a month, mist spray all birds/flights with the vinegar soln, 0nce a week for about a month....

Hi,

Sorry for the perhaps silly question, but how do we know a kakariki has mites? Are they visible? Or are there any visible signs?

Thanks.

Regards,

Dolf
