I was talking to a bloke the other day who says that Kaks only last about 3 years & are very wormy he also says they die quickly in heat --- Probably right if they don't have water
I don't know if this is right or just someone who is a snob COZ We only breed exotics wall
If anyone has any tips please let me know as we worm about every 3 months & what he said has me a bit worried

I'm kind of new to kakarikis myself but from what I have picked up along the way is. They can be a bit wormy but mainly if there in an aviary with a dirt floor has they like to dig around and spend a fair amont of time on the ground. But as you worm your birds every couple of months you shouldn't have any worries about that.

Has far as life span from what I can work out they live around 7 years but have heard of birds living up to 15 years.

they are a great bird to breed and I can spend hours just watching them run around thier cage.
Hope this helps

Kakariki are very hardy parrot, more so than most.
They survive in the wild from below freezing to well up into the 40s, thu breeding in these extremes can be an issue.
From information supplied by experianced breeders in these forums, kakariki well cared for and on good diets live around the 12 to 15yrs in captivity...in the wild there is very little research or infornation avalible.

Worms, not an issue if, again, the birds are well cared for in good dry avaiaries, much the same as all parrots.

I would say that this is someone who has gained their information from the neighbours cousens . uncles, neice who saw them once in a zoo.
OR who keeps birds in very poor conditions, a would be better off collecting rocks.

Thanx guys
Not that he worried me coz I'm a Kak lover now. He annoyed me having the " we have better birds than you " attitude
I have had to put my other male in with the hen because the original male got sick,I bought him over here & treated him put him back & although he is very healthy he doesn't come off the floor. I am hoping that the other male mates with the han now. I saw her sitting at the front of the box today so fingers crossed
I have ordered another one from the breeder of the hen so I can hand rear it
