Pray when i started with kaks i had two females 1 mother and daughter and then invested in a male paired with a female and 2 single males.thinking they would pair up but one of the females wanted the already paired male being typical male (sorry Lads) he switched then a few days later found his old female dead in sleep position in the night box...ummm i thought broken heart of did the other female pick on her till her death???soooo kinda wrote it off as a one off...now 3/4 months later i went in to find another dead female in sleep position in the food box of all places i believe that the first female was only couple of years old and this next one is also the same age.i have never interbreed and feed them salad veg rearing food and the normal seed.some one suggested it was too many sunflower seeds and should only let them have them as a one off????any suggestions

It is very unlikely due to attack from another kakarki...
Maybe something in the nest box a females can tend to spend a lot of time in there????

Doubt the food issue??

Hard to say from here...if no obvious symptoms maybe autopsy?

I find that very hard to be creditable...
If that was the case, we woundnt have kakariki in the wild in the Sth Island off NZ
Sure the Red Crown is next to extinct in the Sth Island, orange now in the low 100s and yellow not better off...but that not because of snow/ice or frosts.

Daily there is a constant flow of members who visit here, from all arund the world
Who I have the utmost respect for...
They are not afaid to speak if they think I am wrong...
Over the last 3 or 4 yrs I would hate to count the old posts where pet shops, who have benn considered "knowledgable" just talk crap.

Be it birds, vintage cars, hotrods or roses..one of the 1st things I do is ask 'experts' some basic, questions then follow up with more tecy stuff.
eg like what is fuel octane? how does that relate to power/compression?
How does dynamic compression relate to it?
If they are able to give acrruate answers... fine
If they say "I think.." or "maybe.. .....but not sure"
If they say dont know but this person would be the one to talk to about that....fine
These are correct answers and helpful, showing they are talkng about something they knowabout
But if they start spoutng off crap...as fact..I know their info is not creditable and are the type of person who, who is afraid to be seens as not fully knowledgable.

99% of pet shops buy in their stock...at most they may dabble in an amature fashion, in breeding budgies..so they dont have that hands on experance.
