Hi Cabbie,
It is common for pet females to lay, but 16 eggs will be taking a lot of calcium out of her and may start to cause her concern, you have to try to stop the cycle before she gets weak. If you have been taking the eggs away as she has been laying them she may just keep on laying until she is spent.
Some ways to stop this would be to let the eggs collect in one place ie: a box for her to lay in, i assume that she is just laying them on the floor, hopefully this will encourage her to sit on the eggs once she has a clutch and she should stop laying while she is brooding but bear in mind that kakarikis lay large clutches.
Another option is to remove her from her comfort zone ie: put her in a new environment and the change could stop the laying process.
If you don't have an aversion to breeding you could purchase a male and set them up to breed.
Another option would be to go to a bird vet and have her fixed so she can't lay at all.
Hope this gives you an answer to your problem cheers Jenny
PS:Make sure you give her plenty of calcium supplements so that she can replenish what she is using.

Calcuim and protein..
Cuttle fish from the pet shop
Chicken bones/meat, lamb chop bones/diced lean steak from your diner left overs...
The odd small cat bisket
And of caorse veggies , fruit,

The diet is VERY important, if she gets run done she can become egg bound, and that is usually fatal.

Calcium can also be provided by baking your egg shells and crushing them up fine, i also give mine hard boiled eggs all chopped up with shells and all mixed with a bit of egg and biscuit mix. Make sure you boil the eggs for at least twenty minutes to kill any viruses that may be present in the eggs as poultry carry lots of diseases.
I also sprinkle calcium powder over their fruit and vegie mix and you can also get it in liquid form and put it in their drinking water.
Vegetables with a higher calcium content are usually dark green leafy vegetables like spinich, broccoli etc.
Hope this helps cheers Jenny

Would you supplement with calcium outside breeding season? I give bit of boiled egg and some pet store bought egg & bisquit once a week. Always have a mix off egg shells and charcoal in aviary. I lost a bird to egg binding once, but do not want to poison a bird by giving too much calcium; can you give tto much?
