I've now read on two swedish websites that kikes should breed before they turn one year old.

And...I find that rather odd. I'll try to contact the ones that own the websites and ask them why, but there was another thought that began to grow in my mind...is it really appropriate to breed at such a young age?

I mean, when do kikes actually become fully grown? Is it really that wise to put such an young (and still growing?) body though the process of breeding?

Well, my minds logics says no, that it probably just disturbs the birds growth and that it will produce weak chicks - however those are just theories. Your thoughts are more than w3c I would really like to know if this is a myth or if it actually has some logic in it and if there's some sense in my theories![/b]

Nothing wrong with your logic

Yes kakariki will breed early, but that is only because of the artifial conditions in captivity
In the wild even an early batch of chicks , by the time they come out of the nest, and Dad decides he cant look after them anymore because the 2nd batch is now leaving the nest...
Will thats getting into shorter days, dropping temps, and they would be at max 4 to 5 months old...and they birds have stopped m8ing any way

A very late batch may be ready to m8 at 8 to 10 months in spring, but this would be the exception rather than the rule
Plus birds will choose the older stronger males and females leaving the younger to maybe sort out later in the season

Nature takes care of things inb its own way
The web sites that say different... Whistle
