My Kakariki has laid 6 eggs.I have 2 questions. (1) I have no male so the eggs will not hatch,so how long will she sit on them. (2) if i was to get a male and got fertile eggs how long is incubation.
many thanks..cab...
Anything from 1 week to 2 or 4 weeks, untill she relealises they are inferile.

thank you for the reply...when we got the bird she was only a couple of months old...this is the second time she has laid eggs, the first time she had 26 due to the fact i kept takin the eggs out not knowing that i should have left them in the box....and she did not sit when i left the last few in the box....this time she is being a real mummy........ by the way what is the life span of this bird......
once again many thanks....cab
Why have a nesting box? that stimulates egg laying
the 'offical' span is something like 5 or 7 yrs...but that seems to be a figure simly taken out of the ether with no actual basis
members here have kakariki up in the 12 to 15 yr bracket and even higher.
Somewhere between 15 and 25yrs seems to be a more accruate number. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
