Hi I am new here and new to the Kakariki. I have today bought a kakariki, after being persuaded by the pet shop owner that they are easy to talk and tame, after getting home and looking on the net I find out that it is Rare for females to talk tame or even whistle. is this correct? also I am not sure how to tell properly if it is male or female it looks like a young bird, but I am just not sure! it is a lovely looking bird with a nice yellowy green color and red in the usual place around eyes and beak, I have spotted under the flight wings red blotches and I beleive This usually indicates female though I again have read this and may be mistaken. I would be grateful of any help that can be offered, I live in the UK, I have never before heard of Kakariki's but they are beautiful and I am glad I found one, I went out with the intention of a cockatiel, but me and the wife saw this and fell in love so we got this instead. Please help if anyone can.
There are many threads and pic here explaining the differences and taming etc by those who actually have hands on experiance..
