Hi there
my kak's eggs have just hatched and the Male is going into the nest box is that right he hasn't been in there while she has been sitting on the eggs
only of a night time
she hasn't hardly been out since they have started to hatch. I've never had a avairy befor and certainly never had eggs or chicks so all very new and worrying to me,I'm also worried about the lack of daylight hours and how they will manage to feed through the night
thanks for any help and advice
This is normal....We have had a cctv camaera (older post) recording what happens
1/Female starts to lay, doesnt sit till all eggs are laid, the male may or may not sleep in the nesting box
2/The female sits, the male feeds her in the nesting box, occassionaly may call her out for a feed, poo ...you may not see here for days on end. Male sleeps in the nesting box
3/Chicks hatch, while young not much is different from the above
4/Chicks start to get pin feathers, the female spends more time out of the nest, and may start to prepare the second nest box.
5/Green feathers start to appear, female moves to 2nd nesting box and lays (back to 1/ ) male takes over feeding her and the chicks in the 1st box. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
OMG still at least I'll know what to expect next time
So start getting the 2nd nesting box ready now, and think about another holding flight
A good breading pair can knock out a batch every 8 weeks for 6 months or so. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
