depressed little girl

Hi there, I'm a newby and am desperately looking for some advice with my Kak.
Last sunday my little girl laid an egg and has done so every other day since. However, since she started laying she has not been herself - very quiet, not wanting to come out to fly around or coming out for a very short period only. She is still having a bath, preening and feeding well but seems a bit withdrawn. I am especially worried as a friend has told me that her father in laws Kak started doing the same and then died!! and I really dont want that to happen!!
I'm hoping someone can give me some advice as what is best to do!! the pet store we bought her from has suggested we buy her a companion which I am happy to do if this will help but I am also worried she may withdraw even more if we put her with another bird!!
Any advice would be muchly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!!

She will not be depressed, but rather quiet, normal behavour

Thanks very much for your help and for the web-link!! she seems to have perked up already - i think it might also be because she's getting even more attention than normal!! needy girls hey!
