There are plenty of acorns around (NZ) here at the moment.
Are there any toxicity problems with them?
I fed a few to some non breeding birds and they like them .
I guess just a few every now and then...moderation?, or best to leave alone?.
Some conflicting info on the net.
"The buds, young sprouts and raw acorns (fruit) of the oak (Quercus sp.) contain tannins, gallic acid and pyrogallol; there is the potential for causing toxicity, and because the nutritional value is questionable, it is probably best to avoid giving acorns to birds to eat."
And another.
"acorns are a safe food for psittacines. There are many instances of wild parrots and feral parrots eating acorns, i.e. Thickbilled Parrots, Quakers, Amazons."
Tha't clear as eh!
Any experience with acorns out there?.
I expect the Kakariki is smart enough that if they get a guts ache they wont eat it...well not much anyway .

i have put branches of privet and tobbaco weed into a flight...these are pioonous 'pest' plants....the kakariki investiagated for a few secs and i mean secs and then did not touch it Except over the next week to land for a couple secs on the way to something else.
My advice is chop the oak down and plant a puriri _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
