There is a lot of PC BS about this....
We used to hold off for about a yr....Now they breed when they want to
BUT and this is a big but ...we feed fresh vegies 2x a day a full mix as per the diet thread...plus protein every couple days meat bones etc...plus fresh in season fruit...plus a consitant supply of calcuim , pumice sand, cuttle fish, cali. broccoli stems etc etc
No artifcial powders additives etc
A consistant balanced diet daily, from when the the parents lay their eggs, feed the chicks, chick weined, and then mates to lay at young age
If this is not the case, and lets face it most books, home breeders just give so called treats, and are inconsistant.
It is far easier for the owner to feed a diet as recommended here than to feed "tit bits and treats"... less mess less wastage, less clean up, less time...more healthy big birds.
Everyone will feed their cat or dog 1 or 2 times a day a good balanced diet , yet fail to do so with a caged bird. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
I do not understand very well. I´m spanish. So before you can raise 1 year or a Food n variety of fruits, vegetables, etc?
My kakariki eat fruits, vegetables, seeds, whole, 2 times a day.
Now he have 3 months but not when it is safe to breed.
They will generally breed around the 6 to 9 months if conditions/ seasons are right
You are mid summer, I doubt if they will mate before next spring.
On the other hand we have 3 pair sitting right now 2 weeks before the shortest day and 2 degs of frost, and another 2 pair looking like are are going to... all are at least 2 yrs old _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
