Hi
I have a female Kakariki who is about 4 months old, she has started crying and becoming really submisive when I go near her...letting me pet her when ussually she won't. she follows me around all the time ands sits near me constantly.

I have a feeling she wants a mate but I don't want her to have chicks, how do I stop her from doing this? as I feel really sorry for her and would like to help her.
Thanks

I sounds as if the bird has picked you as its m8, which under the circumstances is natural...
Its like having a dog and the dog treats the owner as the alpha m8.

taming and a parrot as a companion bird is very much taking advantage of its natural instinct in a flock.

mine does this too! i though mine was a male until i described what she did....

she mainly does this in the bathroom...high pitched crying noice repetative and her tail goes right in the air and you can stroke her tummy etc and her eyes close then if i walk off any let her get on with it she follows me... she follows me all over anyway :)

i was told that she was in desperately in love with me! haha you can search at the side for crying and my post should be in there somewhere!

it used to bother me a little bit...but she seems happy enough with me around without a male kak....i have a picture of her up on the table and she tries to fight with it and fights with her mirror so i dont think it would be a good idea in getting another one :)
