I had a suphur crested...it picked up everything..cars, phone, invite people in who knock on the front door, the beep when the washing machine has finished...Anything that happens around the home..and so damn real one cant tell the differnce from the real thing.
Great noveity but a down right pain the the butt to live with...
Its like having a dog, up come home, instead of barking with glee...jumps around saying "Feed me Feed me"...

And those people who think it is smart to teach birds to swear...basically turns the bird into a worthless animal for anyone else....

Hence why may people will not take their pets to shows open to the public, only takes a couple minutes unsupervised and have a bird that swears.

Peter,

thx for sharing, oratrix amazons are among my favorites. Truly impressive birds and they have an attitude, and well.. an ability to talk and imitate.

Steps, cockatoos are really nice and impressive birds as well. How was your experience overall with the sulphur crested? Would you repeat?
Didn't you ever have an interest on breeding them?

What about Bob, your king parrot, does he talk?

cheers / Pablo

I used to catch wilds out ofd the bush..this one was a mature wild bird I tamed dowm...Suphurs are very destuctive in the home, fine dust everywhere...when I had him I didnt have facilties to breed them, or anything in those days...and every morning eveing they make one hell of a racket, than can be herd streets away
No I would not recomend sulphur, galahs, mitcals ...cookatoos for city or as house birds..

kings or crimsons are not destuctive, quiet and gentle... like an over grown kakariki with intellegence

No Bob doesnt talk...we dont encourage....but thinks hes a kakariki and speeks kakariki fulently...and a little king.
He will argue back when told off...a mixture of king and kakariki.

you mean kikes are not intelligent? Shame on you Liar

Slowly I'm getting to like crimsons and kings a bit more and more, like princesses too. They are still perfect strangers here in Spain so they are easily overlooked. I still don't know why they didn't become a bit more popular as pets here.
As breeding birds they don't seem very attractive as they seem to just make 1 clutch per year, not very interesting for those folks that want many clutches of many babies to handfeed. sigh!

regards / Pablo

I think you answer your own question there....
On the other hand they pull higher prices..

Bob , our king was raised by his parents, with kakariki in the next flight...being a male they are removed from the breeding flight soon after fledging....into the kakariki holding flight....then later into the house. We had a couple kakariki in isolation with him
