hello,
i got my second kakariki yesterday

i have been allowing my current one to chat threw the cage with her
and they started bickering

yesterday the new one slipped out while i took out the celery, and my current kakariki chased her like crazy
my new one has had a stupid wing clip wall
so can not escape and just runs and runs

but obviously my current one wins and pins her down untill i step in with a "COME HERE!"
i'm a little worried they will not get along

are they just bickering and sorting out a pecking order?

i assumed they were both females as both dip their backs in the hen mating position

:fun:

I think the resident female is just making clear who's the boss.

I see people many times is somehow worried about kakariki having short quarrels or some chasing each other around some times.
Cockatiels are much worse in my opinion they will start a "beak duel" over almost anything, and they are much more chaotic, they don't have pecking order signlol. Even when they preen each other and one stops or preens the wrong spot, it's a good reason to "beak wrestle".

Cheers / Pablo

Yeah like pablo says...
one must differentuate between 'pecking order' and all on war.
pecking order is usually sorted with several perches at different heights.
Even then there is always some young 'buck' who tries it on to a higher perch or take over the alphas position..
War on the other hand is when an 'intruder' enters uninvited in to their wider terrortory.

Pecking order involves postuating and intimidation, bit of shove and push.
War is full on attack, rip in and if enough space feet up like illegal cock fighting...feathers fligh
