Consistant and good balanced diet. minerails vitimins

And not just cuttle fish and calcuim carbonate
A good source is the stems of Cali and Broccoli chopped up into 1/2 peas size, feed consistantly.

Has she been egg bound...more often than not it can be fatal if not caught fast enough.

Not only calcium but also phosphorus is of importance. Too little phosphorus in the diet can show signs of calciumdeficiency. Calcium/phosphorus-ratio has to be 2:1.
70% of vegetable phosphorus is unusable for birds because birds lack the enzym phytase to make the phosphorus available. Animal phosphorus is 100% usable. Bones and dicalcium phosphate are excellent Calcium/phosphorus sources.

Peter very nice tip, it has both components I see (calcium and phosphorus), I checked in wikipedia and I see it's like a complement for poultry.
Do you use it yourself? Have any pics?

About bones... does any of you leave piece of bones around for the birds to destroy?
I was a bit afraid of maybe some hygienic condition after leaving them for too long. I usually let them play around with them for 2 days then remove.

Thanks for the help.

Cheers / Pablo

In plants animals humans, absorbing vitimines , minerails etc all depends on a consistant balanced diet...
Ca needs phosporous, phos needs..cant rem off hand....iron needs vit C
Its like a a big chain reaction.

lamb, beef chop bones we just throw out to the parrots....
If there is a constant supply they will not touch anything that has gone off, be it veggies fruit or meat/bones....problems arise because of inconsistancy or the "treats" concept

Chicken/KFC bones I chop up, so they can get to the marrow inside.
Leftover steak meat from the dinner table I dice up into about 1/2 pea size...or mouthful at a time....this way there is no wastage or left overs
Also a couple small quail running around the bottom of each flight act as little vaccuum cleaners.

Most eggfoods contain calcium/phosphorus. Only the ratio can vary. I've added eggfood in the past as the only calcium source. Never had any eggbound issues.
I've once made eggfood myself and added a mineral suplement for cats and dogs. http://www.beaphar.co.uk/productdetail/bone-builder/1825/

I mentioned in several older threads that we also do use cat bickets as a treat a couple times a week, a couple per bird Purina brand they are a little more expensive.
