very nice birds bruce, thanks for sharing the pics

about rescuing birds.... I understand how you feel
I refrain from entering pet shops because I feel bad about the birds.
I think more often than not people buy the birds/animals at pet shops because of pity, rather than because of what would be the normal reasons.

I wonder sometimes if pet shops do it on purpose!!! Like a marketing tool:
"ok let's let filth pile up on the cages so that when a poor soul drops by feels sympathy of the birds and buys"

Of course then there's the odd petshop in where they house the birds in reasonably sized cages and keeps the shop clean and nice, but I think I have seen just one like that.

Cheers / Pablo

Rest assured that as soon as you rescued an animal from a petshop, it's replaced by another one.

So, to break this cycle we all have to stop buying. No matter how difficult.
As soon as we all stop rescuing ( by buying) they will stop selling.

Bruce,,

don't worry...
I'm afraid I would have done the almost exact same thing Sad // Wink
Almost... I would have bought him AND would have reported the place to the "animalcops".

A lot of bad PR on the internet works wonders too. Or a small article in the " local liar" ( newspaper)

ive no chance its not a small enterprise its pet depot a franchise .. which is worse they employ idiots who don't know what day it is never mind what a pet needs and the manager is one arrogant son of a ...... he knows f all and has the customer service skills of 15 year old teenager... in fact i only went there out off desperation for some egg food " i normally amazon most my stuff its easier and less expensive " but needed it sooner. anyway the two kaks i got are coming on from petrified to nearly landing on me now after a week and are starting to make some noises as they were silent for some strange reason... any ideas why anyone??

[quote="bruce"]ive no chance its not a small enterprise its pet depot a franchise ..

Near where I live is a BIG store.
Last year I was checking the internet for Kakariki's.
Saw a nice add from this store and decided to google the advertiser...came across a lot of bad and sad stories about the way they keep and sell their birds.

Last time I checked he seemed to have cleaned up his act.The people that reviewed him over the years are a bit more friendly towards him now.
The bad pr obviously caused him a lot of trouble and he lost income.

It's not about having a chance or not.. it's about a few flakes creating a snowstorm.

Now that's good news! <v> ( re: nearly landing on you)

About them being silent.. If you make noise, you are noticed.
If you are scared.. last thing you want is to be noticed Wink

I recently bought a 2nd kakariki as a friend for Kwibus.
Kwibus had just started to talk. A few words, not much.. but very clear. Soon as the newbie arived he stopped talking.
Still made kakariki sounds tho.
I guess the change from being the only kakariki to being introduced to a newcomer made him loose his balance.

However ,this morning, he greeted me with " hi poepie" again :)

Good luck with your birds!
I think it's REAL cool what you are doing for them!

Just hope you can find a way to trigger the petstore owner to take better care of his " goods" from now on...

thanks gee its such a reward when a bird takes a shine to u ... makes u feel like your doing everything right .
as for the pet shop i will spread the word as the guy spent more time polishing his harley than anything else! dont get me wrong very nice bike but see to your stock and customers first instead of leaving someone who openly admits the know nothing about animals "but thinks they are cute" to sell them.

Well done on the rescue - I have one pet store I frequent when visiting the North West of England and that is the only store I will go to now - it's bird section is amazing, every variety of food and toys - I'm yet to see one to beat it.

Looking forward to more updates on your 2, you are making great progress so far
