in this case it seems more like low fertility, but those extra eggs are helpful to keep the heat and release humidity in the nest also, I guess.
Btw.... about "hot water bottle" theory... I had the idea with large batches itīs better to remove infertile eggs as to ease the brooding for the hen (itīs a smaller area of eggs to brood).
But maybe for kakariki itīs different than other species. Idk...
