A few days ago I was walking close to a native bush area nearby and spotted the most colourful Kakariki I have ever seen sitting in the top of a small Manuka tree. The crown was a brilliant red and for the first time a bib the same colour that seemed to have a yellow surround when it moved. The rest of the bird was a brilliant green all over. I was too far away to get a picture, and when I moved nearer it flew away.
The Kakariki in the pictures were in a tree early one morning recently in the same area. The day before there were 5 of them.
