if I'm not mistaken it's towards the 8th week that the iris starts to become visible.
Steptoe uses it as a guideline as to when to separate from the parents.
Good luck and we want to see pictures of the babies.

We dont have mutations in NZ...yes If the kakariki emerge from the nest around the right age....can flutter to the floor and with a few minutes climb the meash up into a cnr (I put small perches in these cnrs) and after a few hrs can flap their way to a perch....they dont have the isis formed
This forms about 2 weeks later, about the same time they can be weaned off adult feeding of them...Also the beak turns from the pink hue to the silver and black
It can be easy to tell dad from the young from outside the flight if left in there too long...but get in there once the pink beak and iris formed with a dad in prime condition, can be very difficult to tell the male chicks from the dad....I have made the mistake twice...with the hen still sitting on the next batch....then try to ID dad in a holding flight with anything from 12 to 40 birds... _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
