hi every1 sorry i haven't added to my handrearing thread but as u can understand it's been quite a busy period what with christmas jus round the corner " kids eh who'd have em " also i had a touch and go situation with chick for about 2 weeks firstly from split a claw it lost alot of blood and took a week to pick it's strength up , then this was followed by sour crop which luckily i spotted early and got the chick straight to a local vet who had some1 who specialised in everything avian " only one for miles around and he was on my doorstep very lucky" it only jus made it out of a 80% chance that it wouldn't lucky again but so in need of rest!
problem im having now is i've put my birds on a rest period but 1 pair have started laying eggs off perch last 1 laid on floor and nows she's building a nest round it whilst sitting it... is this normal do they nest on ground ... plus it's making observing her behavour effortless... iv'e had problems with nesting this hen before and maybe this could give me an insight...should i remove egg, put in a nesting box or leave her?????????? _________________ thanks brucie.....

Althu not common, kakariki have been known to make nests nearly anywhere, in capitivity and wild....in the wild to make nest in and under clumps pf bush and in holes in clay bank,
