Today I have sadly lost the 1st kakariki kaka I bought. He looks to have broken his neck. He his the father of 20 week old chicks and has left kiki his mate.
My worry is now for kiki the hen the chicks are now well established and can fend for themselves but I am worried that kiki will pine for him

Will she be ok or do you reccomend I introduce a new cock into the aivery Crying or Very sad

mick,

sorry about your loss
about the new kike for your widow hen, I guess she will be fine if she has the youngsters around, she will socialize, etc... but a new male won't hurt neither, especially if you want to breed again.

Cheers / Pablo

Dont worry about it ..she will manage fine
If something hsppens to the female, the malke just gets on with the job raising the chicks....and visa versa.

Mick when "AJ" reared her chicks she fed them herself. "Sarah" her mate would feed "AJ" but wasn't allowed near the nest box or the chicks untill they fledged. "AJ" also would feed herself. I think why this happened to them was that there was only one very large nest box at the time in the avairy. ( my Fault). So fingers crossed with the eggs Kiki i believe will cope very well.

Steptoe I am not sure how he did it I am only guessing that he broke his neck I found him in the corner his neck was floppy.
Not sure how long he had been there He had been very healthy leading up to then. I had been working away from home my wife was looking after the birds. Sad
