hi everyone,

please can you give me some advice on breeding kakarikis. i purchased 2 kakarikis from local pet shop about 3 months ago and today iv fount a egg in the nesting box whilst cleaning there cage. so i just gave it a quick clean and left the nest box as i didnt want to disturb them or the egg.

im new to owning a kakariki and new to breeding birds. is there any kind of food i need to make sure is in there diet. at the minute they have cockatiel seed and fruit and also have cuttlefish and millet on there cage. iv read that the hen will lay eggs on different days so im guessing that its only been laid in last 48 hours how will i know that the cock has fertilised the egg(s) or is it just a waiting game to see if they hatch.

Thanks
Rob

Rob,

as you correctly say you have to wait to check if the eggs are fertile.

About food, there's a sticky "what do you feed your kikes" in the sub-forum "
"Kakariki general care"

I encourage you to use the quicksearch on the left side of the forum whenever you want to discuss something, and if you find a topic that is related you can post there and add any ideas/questions to the old topic.

Cheers / Pablo
