hey all..
back whit a question, writhing this forum out my work and dint had a hole lot of time to spit true the forum page`s
last week i posted a forum page about the sexing of my birds ====> http://www.kakariki.net/ftopict-2282.html that helpt a Hole lot but at the same day i allso got my 3 nestingboxes that i orded.
the case i am in right now is that 2 of my kak`s play and sleep in it but during the day the come out of them and be REALY active the hole day (fly around destroy all of my books) that kind of stuff.
but my cinamon kak sins he has his box his activety is all most none. in the morning he plays outside of his cage for about a hour and then go`s back in his box and i dont see him for the hole day he isnt all so active in the night he just looks like sleeping the hole day. i allso notice that he is begining to get ballt at some places on his back and belly
i have made some pics of him in the box
is this normal to do for a male kak ( 1 year old ) i realy dont know
plz help me
No that is not normal for a male...it is not uncommon for a female.
But would be considered not normal for a female untill she has mated and laid eggs.

Put the 2 conditions together and I would be suspecting a female being a little picked on and very intimidated by the other birds.
Are the other birds in that nesting box or the others?
Althu kakariki will often nest in odd places, that shpe...horozonal box is not usually suitable....need deep boxes to stop chicks coming out early, dropping to the ground and damaging legs/wings etc...discussed in old posts.
And sry to be blunt, bur I have never figured out why ppl buy a nesting box.
1/ They are usually made out of crap materials and too thin walls.
2/The are nailed or stabled together, and being to thin walled one cant replace nails with screws well
3/Because of nailed and often the material of construction, the cant be cleaned and sterialised well
4/ They are bloody expensive
A good nesting box is made out of elcheapo builsers boxing rought sawn 200mmx 17mm
3 bits about 450/ 500 mm long and 1 50 mm longer than the other 3.
Cut a round hole 10mm from the top of one 60/65 mm diam
Screw a approx 30mm branch about 75mm long from the inside about 20mm below the hole
A strip of meash about 75mm wide with a small stick behind stapled to the inside from 30mm below the hole down.
The longest peice is the back...the overlap goes to the top...this can have a hole for a wire hook or simply be screwed to the flight wall.
The front (hole) side can be put as aside , front, depending on which way u want to face it
Screw the sides together.
Make a base out of same materal or bit of scrap ply ..what ever..screw on
The top 'hatch' make out of same as walls or med heavy ply...it sits between the back panel and a cross bit that fits inside to hold it in place.
Tools A saw( or get the timber yard to cut bits to length)
22 self taping wood screws, a screw driver....hole saw ot a jig saw.
20 to 30 mins. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
