hi all,
i have recently taken out the eggs of my kakariki nesting box as she has been sitting on them for six weeks and dosent seem to want to give up.
it has been a week and 4 days and she still wont come out of her box even though there is no eggs... is there anything wrong with what she is doing as i hardly see her come out unless its to get water and food and im worried for her health...
thanks

That is not good....
Every so often we get a female that lives day and night in a nesting box, any spare nesting box....she doent mate with any male, thu will be feed by a male.
This is not just a kakariki thing, it applies to many bird species
I was befeily discussing this with NZ top avairan vet a few months back...he reconises that this happens and has no explanation for it...
Remove the nesting box and find out if she is being picked on by another bird...If not leave the nesting box out for several months. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
