Hello,

I am having a little trouble with one of my Kakarikis (i have 2).

He was losing all his feathers about a month ago at first we just thought he was moulting but then on reading on here we saw about the feather mites and applied the treatment drops to the back of his neck and after 7-8 days he still looks really bad and has no colour if anything he has lost more feathers

Please help i have added a photo to assist you with seeing his problem.

Thank you

Looks very much like mite damage....
What sort of drops on the neck?
Cleaned everything down and mist sprayed the cages/birds with 50/50 water and vinager?
Repeat both of the above 10 to 12 days later, and vinegar as maintance once a month

Alsp add apple cider vinegar to the diet....I prefer in the chopped vegiies once a week.

And do they have a good source of calcuim and phosphorus

A poor or in balanced diet, the general opinion of experianced members here is this is a large controbution to heavy long moults that appear like mite infections.

We are using 'Anti-Parasite Spot-On for Medium Sized Birds'...

We are going to do the vinegar/water spray/wash this week.

Should be getting more of the anti parasite spot on stuff soon as well, should i treat the my other Kakariki at the same time to prevent him getting infected also?

Calcium from cuttlefish?

and where do they get the Phosphurus from?

sorry new to keeping birds...

Whats the best idea with feeding them fresh stuff, every day or every other day and how much should they be eating of the fresh stuff?

Thank you for the help.

YES!

'Anti-Parasite Spot-On for Medium Sized Birds'...

What is the active ingrediant?
u need invermectin (use the quick search block to the left)

Good consistant diet...the chopped up cali and broccolli stems that u throw out from dinner prearation...

Calcium from cuttlefish?

yes but they/us cannot absorb without phosfous....
That is why a balamced diet is so esentual...
We go thru approx 12 to 14kg of chopped veggies no waste, plus meat, plus fruit and only 3 to 4L of seed per week for 60/70 birds...
Give u an idea of good diet...

make good use of the quick search block on the left....make a cuppa 1st u will spend a lot of time reading...learning.
OH and check out teflon to....unrelated to this subject.

Cheers
Steps
