Mine came out roughly 4 to 10 days after they started peeking out.

Dont bother about using that as a reference time....
The crowns ...on red kakariki , will be scruffy but basically uniform and complete.
They sort of fall flap out....then very quickly look around, often with guidence from the dad, for a way to climb high into a cnr.
Once u know which cnr they tend to go to..usually 2 cnrs, hand a small branch perch jambed right up in that cnr for them to perch on.
The 1st time u put it up they will still hang off the wire....cause its not jambed up high enough Shocked

one crown is nearly finished other two a week off maybe.... how high do i put this perch and i have ply round the bottom a foot high will they need some way to climb up easier?
another quick question when the hen has hatched the second clutch will she then stop clutching or is there something i need to do?

Ours climb up the mesh....
When they do and hang up there THEN u will see what I mean and hang or jamp a perch stick up there....may take a day for them work out what it is for....
I believe it may help with flight training???? they tend to jump off it more readly than letting go of hanging off the wire...???

you will see which cnr the tend to go to....a little mesh 'ladder' up to the main meash or a couple sticks....
Wait till it happens and have a play....that part of the 'fun' breeding and careing for birds.

1/About this time the older chicks are ready to wean off....or moved to another flight with a couple mature single males who will take over as 'uncles' look after them and finish weaning.
2/When the nesting box is MT, take it down, unscrew /dismantle, clean and hose off.....sterilize...I use the LPG burner...burns the wood and looks good....reasseble new nesting material and hang up again...The hen will then lay the 3rd lot of eggs .....and 4th and 5th and if like ours continuosly produce over 120 odd healthy adults and still going.

The old nesting materil....that goes in the veggie garden around veggies that have flowers..like tomatos, beans, peas ,capsicum, sweet corn....but not cali and broccoli....it makes those bolt too early and go to seed.

hi everyone

just got bk off my honeymoon and all the chicks are now learning how to feed themselves and how to negotiate the flight .... mum has also hatched the first chick from her second batch... it was a bit daunting leaving them but my friend has done a sterling job in lucking after my little feathered family i owe him big time!!!
all the young look in tip top condition without a feather out of place and their crowns are nearly complete ..... its good to learn a friend or family member to take care of your birds as u never know when u will need someone who can do the job rite especially when there are young involved.

That is the biggest headache
For 60 to 90 parrots..
We have deeper seed boxes about 1/3 full and engough seed for 2 weeks
Automatic watering each day, a timer turnes on.
5 or 6 kg Fresh chopped veggies in the fridge... that lasts 3 1/2 to 4 days.
And when they run out of that frozen peas and sweet corn mixed... 1kg of each lasts about
Apples that get slided into 1/8 approx 4 apples every 3 days.
alternating with Kiwi fruit 1/2s

Diet quality drops over the 2 weeks, but their bodies are already well stored up on nutitants, and the above is not exactly a poor diet anyway for a couple weeks.

We drop not allow anyone into the flights....unless a bird it caught up or something, and thats only happeded 3 times in over 10 yrs or so.
Anything else....leave it .
