Male or Female - Hi there i am new to this site and a new owner of a 14wk old kakariki, ive had him/her for 2 days now, he was parent reared in an avery, ive got him/her in a large cage and im hoping it is a male as am hoping he will be a talker, ive been letting him out of cage for flying, however at the moment he is a little hard to get back into his cage, but i manage it in the end, when he does go back into his cage he gets a piece of apple for being good, ive manage for stroke his chest and he will tep onto my finger when i put it near him, the person who i brought him from said he was 99% it was a male, can you help put my mind at ease with this please. also do you think i should be keeping in his cage for a little longer to get used to me b4 letting him fly about my living room.

Hi, We have kept Kakis for about 6 years and bought a breeding pair last October. I found the forum very useful when they started to breed: thanks for all of the posts! They have a chick who is now nearly 4 months old and dad has just stopped feeding him recently. Mum has eggs again, but both mum and dad have started to be very aggressive towards the baby. Is this normal? We would like to keep the baby, but won't if he keeps getting attacked. We keep our birds indoors with the cage door open all of the time. Thanks! Monty
