oops d'oh! she might be moulting so dont worry too much. it shouldnt be too long before they start to grow through again.... If she isnt due for a moult it might be a bit longer .... but.... i dont think a tail feather would just drop out like that unless she was.

Try hanging some stuff in the windows to try let her know there is something there to avoide her doing it again.... cuz it could cause serious damage if she keeps doing it.... one of my babies flew into a window n knocked herself out a couple of years ago....!!! i also had another fly into an oil painting of a sunset and split the canvas she hit it soo hard d'oh!

Quite a few of our kakariki destroy their tail feathers by hanging on the wire mesh then slide back a little with the tail feather thru the mesh.
A couple are so hard on their tail feathers, at 1st glance appears they have no tail. Shocked
Yet others just have scrappy tails and other near perfect tails, even thu they hang on the mesh.

Hi!

in my experience, youngsters usually scrap or even destroy the tailfeathers, but I don't have that problem with my adults.
Eventually as the tail feathers get older they get a bit scruffy, but I guess that's normal if we consider we keep them in rather "limited" enclosures and the feathers eventually get scratched aroudn the cement floors and wires.

Cheers / Pablo
