My dad used to import all sorts of birds and monkeys thru the 60s 70s 80s so I had the privelage of growing up with every type of animal possible, I just dont understand why if an animal is considered a pest in one country, why can they not export that animal to bring in revenue and send them to breeders abroad ? just pondering , plus I would love to be able to trade bloodlines with breeders in other countries ! wow what a gene pool could be made.
The problem is, many times those animals caught in the wild were not pests, and they were not caught and kept in reasonable conditions.

you can see african greys, patagonias, amazons etc... pushed in cages in such huge numbers it's absurd. It's a disgrace.
But of course for politicians is always easier to make laws that prohibit whatever, rather than finding a more constructive solution. _________________ AD ASTRA PER ASPERA
i know nothing about export laws now... i used to export pedigree goats to the middle east and africa to improve their stock but that was a long time ago and i know eeverything is a lot more strict now especially for birds. _________________ May........

It does happen,,rare wallabe in NZ where exported back to Aussie..pest here
Recently bubble bees captured in NZ (introduced to polenat introduced clover) because they are endangered in UK
But in most cases the animal is not endangered in its home land, like the eing neck which is a huge pest problem in several countries now and IF DoC down in the sth Island doesnt get its act together is /will be in NZ
Generally there are enough breeders tosupply most export requirements, but its expensive..beauocracy, quarantine etc..so small return to breeders in many cases.
Then there is the CITES which yes works well...but often the administration in some countries is arcaid and/or coropt.
Then there is a huge ranch in Aussie (keep n mind some of these properies are bigger than France...that brought the stock of very rare/ near extinct African antilope and similar animals from a private collection going bust.....It is no good sending them back to Afica because they will be slaughtered....Now these herds have expanded in the Aussie wild thu are restricted....and bring in big revenue from the 'big white hunter' which also payes for the required culling.
Recently the Auckland zoo has sent off spare garaffes, and this is not uncommon between counties....again expensive and quarantines etc. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
