Hello all
I have got a very tame Lutino Kakariki hen 'Henrietta'.
Now I have been told they can get broody if kept on their own. Is this correct ? Should I keep them as a pair like Lovebirds or is she Ok on her own ?
Our local breeder has got a green male available I could have, but not sure if I really should have one or two ? And if I need to get a second bird how do you introduce them ?

Hi Nicole .... it isnt definate that she will...... she would prob start laying eggs first and then try hatching them IF she bonds with you rather than a mate..... if you dont want to breed Kakarikies then dont get a male because she is far more likely to start laying if she bonds with a male bird than a human........ however ............. getting another female should be fine..... single sex groups seem to get on fine. As for introducing them.... ive never had a problem.... try putting the new bird next to the cage for a while to check out the new place before you introduce them...some people say introduce them in day light .... others as its getting dark and they will go to roost and should be fine when they wake up ..... there might be a little squabling at first while they establish whos boss.... but just observe them. If you just want to keep the one bird read up on socializing and enrichment that might help
