Hello fellow matey's!
S'been ages ,i know..
Can anyone advise me how best to keep an outdoor aviary shelter warm?
4ft x 6ft x 6ft(h)
have just purchased a 3ft tubular heater and thermostat but it doen't seem adequate...
Any idea's,pls?
My 1st question is why?
and
What sort of temps are u worried about and why?
Generally heating outdoor avairies ...they have a partion / largish cupboard type area they can roost in that is heated.....
how do i describe this....?
the bird in in the main area it heads towards the rear turns right (or left if the avairy is designed that way) around a partiion/cnr, then turns right again into a open sort of cupboard area about 1m x1m x 1m or larger. with roosting perches nesting boxes etc in.
The big thing with kakariki in extreme temps conditions iss shelter from wind and make sure the water tray has not frozen over so they can drink ans swim in....kakariki of all parrots would be one of the toughest...like kakapo, kaka, kea.....tropical to snow. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
Sorry Steptoe, was supposed to add for mixed FINCHES...now ya see the reason f'heat..
I have lowered the temperature on the thermo..and altho the tube is warm..it doesn't seem to throw the heat to warm the air(space)
can't think of another SAFE form of heat..reckon I need another tube?
what about a ceramic heat lamp?
you can "cage" it, wrapped around wire mesh, to avoid the birds from touching it
birds will roost around it if they need warmth _________________ AD ASTRA PER ASPERA
just a suggestion but.... could you insulate the sleeping area with polistireen or bubble wrap.... that would help keep the heat in... good luck _________________ May........
insulated walls. forgot to mention that, thanks May....yes I have seen walls from refigerated containers used, to double walled with air space and with fiberglass insulation sealed in...
It makes a huge saving on the power bill to. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
