Got my first eggs guys !!!!!!!! I'm eggcited , These will be the first kaki's born in my aviary, as they are scarce here in the eastern us. The parents are pied but split to some other stuff so I can't wait to see what I get, YES I'M COUNTING MY CHICKS BEFORE THEY HATCH !!!!!!!!

try getting kakariki in their native land...even harder, and to source mutations, literally, impossible...I kid u not.

You know that amazes me that you guys cant get them there, but of course we can not keep any native species here in the us, We could years ago, I grew up with native black bear, deer,fox and many other animals as pets but that has long since changed, another thing that gets me is the export laws, here you guys are with tons of cockys and other birds that are at pest level, and we would give anything for them.
What I dont get is most of NZs wildlife is endangered and the Dept of Conservation complains they dont have the budget to breed all the species.
Then recently they have had a big cut, and have made big noises about that to.
YET I was at the national Federtion of NZ Bird Clubs annual show a few months ago.... looked arounds at all these very highly experianced birds breeders....so asked around a bit
If DoC gave u a couple pair of endangered birds, snails, repitles whatever, would y breed them ? And would u breed them for free?
Got 2 answers every time.

Now I ask , why does DoC spend millions of dollars every yrs, Corporate fund raise to breed a hand full of species, when there are enough people to breed all the species at next to no cost???
And why are we wasting the millions of the feel good pr corporate dollars in this manner?
Thats MY bloody tax dollar being wasted....
In the same time, DoC has realease a hand full of capitive orange species kakariki at a huge cost, I have produced nearly a 1000 kakariki at approx $12 each.
Same thing applies to others breeding ducks replites etc
What can one conclude from this?
The only thing i can come up with is our Depts of Conservation realise they could obsolete a lot of their beuarocrate jobs...therefore it is in their personal interest to not take animals off the endanged list, only off the at risk list.
