Hello
I am picking up our hand reared Kakariki in 2 days. I have brought a large cage for it but not sure what to put init??
Would someone please help???

What is the best thing to put in the bottom of the cage? Berch shavings, newspaper??
What else needs to go into the cage? i have a cuttle fish, swing, toys, perches
I have asked for a male how do i tell if it is?
Whats the best thing to do with the bird when i get it home? Leave it in the cage to settle in? Start as we mean to go on and give it lots of contact?

Comments would be great please!!!

Thank you

Hi Karin,

I have seen several Belgian and Dutch breeders use wood chips as cage bedding.

I would say leave him in the cage for a couple of days, Steptoe usually suggests leaving them for a week or so so they indentify it better as territory.

Run a search for key terms like taming, tame, feeding, food, etc... on the forum, and feel free to post in any old threads to clarify any info you need.

Welcome to the comunity!
