Hello there!

As you maybe know i got a female for my male kakariki about 2 days ago and they have been getting along without any problem

Theres just one issue atm
Today when it was time for bedtime, whenever the female tries to go to the higher perchs the male chases her off. Is there something i should do?

Like maybe reorganize in the cage or seperate them or something?

Best regards
William

if hes just chasing her off his fav perching place then its prob not a big problem. if its just a couple of days they have been together then they wont have got to know each other yet.... so id say keep an eye on them and give them a bit of time to get to know each other.... look at it from a people perspective...... if some bird just wandered in your house n sat in your fav chair ...... youd prob have a word right...?. well thats all hes doing! unless hes chasing her round the cage squwarking and biting at her in which case he really doesnt like her

Yep May is on to it...
Just to get this right....
he is on his normal perch and there is a perch above him???
And she wants to perch on that one?

remove the perch above down below his, and maybe lower the other end of where he sits on his perch...

Just a matter of the female getting too big for here boots ... Whistle

Damn now when my wife reads that she will hit me ..oh well another week in the dog box Wink
Its only the depth of trouble that varies for us Husbands lmao

Well yeah still kinda worried though, i feel she is more fragile beeing 4 months and he about alot older

The cage is sort of funnily built, looks like a house where one part looks like a normal square cage but a small part of it sticks out on top and shapes like a roof from a villa or so

Previous 2 days she was sitting on the spot he used to sleep, now she has been sleeping for a few 2-3 hours with her head tucked in her feathers on the ledge that connects to the food bowl, in mid center of the cage.

Just hoping nothing happens :<

If he was what we call a rogue bird, your female would either be in tatters by now or, most likely dead.

When u have seen a pair, and in particular a female , defending the terrority around a nesting box once chicks have hatched.....against large parrots like kings....you will understand the difference between, what it is like when a kakariki gets agressive, and a bit of pecking order.

It is small scale of.....at dusk the wild birds go to roost in the local park trees, and they kick up quite a noise for a short while, every now and then a bids flies up and lands again....same thing except u have only 2 birds
