Steps, pablo or anyone else could you help me on a question? I`ve two spare hens and decided to try as a one of experiment to trio these birds up with a spare cock. All has gone safely very few squabbles that didn`t turn in to anything nasty all is peacefull. I have one of the two hens on 5 eggs and the other hen now started visiting the other box. Have you ever tried this before and had any success? Thanks for your time.

yes I have experimented with that....once the chicks hatch the hens get real teroritial, real agressive to each other.
I never determined the space that maybe needed betwen nesting boxes, but estimate from theexperiance, out of line of sight anf 4 to 5M at least.

even if they don't fight I wonder if the male will be able to cope with feeding 2 clutches at the same time

btw... the first pair of greens look great

I have thought about both those things the feeding two clutches and hens being over aggresive of yet nothing negative has happened they are under close observation. Either of you ever had a chick with deformed neck i have one that seems to be sevearly twisted yet chick seems fit and healthy otherwise

Keep us posted...
We have communty breed before in some of our experiments to establish how to....end of the day takes a flock thats been to gether for a yr/18 months, and even then less than a 50% chance it works. More effort than its worth.
Watch very close after chicks hatch the females spending to much time 'defending' rather than tending chicks.
If they do, lock in the nesting box and remove the box to another flight
The single female will carry on by her self....
After thought, these are 1st time hens? anything could happen, from carring on to complete abandonment.
Yellow crown are more tolerant.
