PostPosted: Mon Jul 03, 2017 4:34 pm    Post subject: Lost Female Male going nuts

My female died after 3 week of breeding and feeding by the male. She was not egg bound but just looked bad one morning and died by the end of the day.Now my male continues to go to the nest opening and regurgitates like hes feeding her.I took the box down and he still does it on a perch. It's been 3 weeks and tried to introduce a new female and he attacked her right away.Is there some sort of time frame before he will accept another female?Any advise would be appreciated. Tom

This is a hard one...
Is this in a breeding cage or in a aviary/ flight environment?
you have done everything right ...
And yes the new female will be treated like an invader in the territory, espec if the nesting box happened to still be there.

Generally the male will pine for a little while, and settle down....

Given the time frame....
I would completely change the males environment, if possible move to a different location... cage or different aviary flight new and relocated perches, move/ change seed/ water trays ...

Then introduce the new female but in a flight, iff possble , couple flights away, or cage other side of the room...more able to hear than direct contact.
Get them start to call and communicate from a distance.

It is not uncommon in such cases, espec while hen is in nest, the male takes months to hook up with another female, and in some cases is so selective even couple yrs on still doesnt.

I think I have done everything right. My cages are indoors. But They are 6'long 4'tall and 2 1/2'deep.I have removed the male from that cage and but him in a cage between two hens I have.He hangs on the cage side of both ends and seems interested in both but I think I will wait a few more weeks before I try to pair him up again. Thanks for you input.Tom
