Hello, first let me introduce myself. I am Toine and I live in The Netherlands. I am a student and I love birds very much! I've had a lot of birds for the past few years.. like chickens, woodducks, golden pheasants, quails, diamonddoves, zebra finches, Bourke's parakeets etc..
I'm very interested in Kakariki's for a while. So I bought myself two Kakariki's for my new aviary (8 m2)!!
I've searched for a lot of mutation info, but it's a all little hard for me to understand.. terms like dominant, recessive, singlefactor and so on.. (I haven't had Biology for a while Wink )
maybe someone can give me some explaining..
But to come back to my story. I have two Kakariki's. It's told me they are a male and a female. (I am not really an expert with Kakariki's. It's not all clear to me what colour mutations it are exactly.

First the female:
Born in 2003. It's all yellow with a few little green spots on her back. Her feet are pied. The nozzle is grey. (cinnamon yellow mutation?) I think it's a hybrid because her forehead is faded red, and the spot behind her eye also is.
The parents of this bird are unknown.

The man:
Born in 2006. All yellow, sharp red coloured forehead and a red spot behind his eye. His nozzle and feet are pink/skin coloured.
The father of this bird is: Yellow red fronted. The mother of this bird is: pied red fronted with 50% green and 50% yellow.
The Kakariki came out a nest of three. The other two were: pied (50%/50%), and the other one also pied only with red eyes. All the other ones have black eyes.
I don't have a picture of this bird but it will come soon!

So maybe some one can tell me what colour mutations it are and what for youngs they can get?

Hello Toine and w3c to our community.

Probably the outcome of your birds will vary in piedness between the two parents.

A verry good site where you will find an explanation of genetic inheritance. http://www.agapornis.be/nl.htm
Its a Dutch site about the Agapornis but the basics are the same for all species.
Other interesting sites are http://www.birdhobbyist.com/parrotcolour/articles.html
