Hi w3c.
Your Kakariki is a hybrid between a yellow and red species...notice thre faint spot behind the ear, yellow crown dont have a spot there, and the red feathers mixed in with the yellow on the crown.
It looks like a female.
For further info on hybrids, look in the gallery section, link at the top of the page, and the word search function in the 'Quick search' block to the left.

Kakariki are a must to have safty doors, they are very observant and quick.
The best way it re capture is use a live rat trap, one that has a spring loaded door in one end that is activated with bait on a wire...place this on the top of your avairy, espec in early morning. Kakariki when escape do not travel far, and are attracted, stay local, to the sounds of those left in the avairy.

I was wondering how the little fella will be treated like by the other birds in the wilderness?as ive not seen him yet.He escaped 2 days ago

Reading in the gallery i stumbled across this "Hybrids are not good birds and should be discouraged"why is this so? cos i find there pesonalities exceptional!

Your escaped kak probably wont fair to well, its biggest problem will be finding food and keeping away from predators such as cats, even magpies, crows will attack it. having said all that kakariki are very adaptable little parrots there is a small colony of them living on the great ocean road in your state, probably escapees.so dont give up on it yet.put some food out near its avairy. hybids are simply crosses between the red and yellow fronted kaks and should not be used to breed from as all the offspring willalso be hybrids ie not pure redcrowns or pure yellow crowns. temprements are not alterd in the hybrids so your bird in the pic would still make a great pet.
