hi all
I have noticed on the wing of one of my yellow fronted males that he has a small spot of yellow feathers, he does not have any white toes.I was wondering could he be a pied, or possibly a hybird.
p.s i will be able to take a photo if it is needed
sorry im not exactly sure what u mean. i got him from a bird dealer he only told me that the bird had come from adelaide.
i presume you mean was the fetahers plucked from the bird when it was young. i dont think so as he seems to be in very good condition the feather seam to be on top of the wing not from underneath. i only started to notice it since he had started taking baths and now it is always there.

Yes, thats what I meant.
I've had a talk with a genetics expert about pied markings in pure normals. He said that those are modifications and not a mutation. If the skin of a bird is damaged on a particular place than it could be that the pigmentcells on that part are lost. As a result of that there can not be melanine in those feathers on that area. Those feathers are pied.
Featherpicking is one of the most common causes of skin damage.
Compare it with someone who is burned on his arm. One year later he goes sunbathing and notices that his arm doesn't get a tan.
