hi all
i am hopefully expecting some egg's to hatch in the next 10 to 15 days. i am wondering what sort of extra food do i need to put in when the chicks hatch.
i am sure i read on a threed that u use egg and buscuit. is this the same mix you use for cannaries. does any one have some good recipes. i would greatly appreciate it as i dont want to buy shop stuff if it can be avoided.
We feed the normal diet, fruit veggies, If feeding omce a day , increase to morning and evening.
higher Minerials, calcuim minerial block, pumic sand, and maybe even a little suppliment in the veggies
Up the Protein and fruit (citric acid) lean chop/chicken bones, little lean steak, meal grubbs.
All needed for growing babies and hen...laying can take a lot of stored nuitiants out odf the hen and she needs to build up again for the next batch off eggs _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'

gaday,
ill tell you what i use from start to finish.after a break from the summer months and not a lot seems to be happening and you start to wonder whats going on and whos going to sit and whos not, SPROUTED SEED bingo ! works every time. a lot of people use different methods to sprout there seed, some like some peoples methods and some dont.this method i got of one of the best long time aviculturist ive ever met.
pigieon mix purchaced from any seed store and add to that a bit of black sunflower and a bit of grey sunflower (whatch how much you use cause of fat content) i use aprox quarter of a cup per pair.i put this seed mix in a glass jug (1ltr) add one teaspoon of bleach and fill to the top with water and let stand for about 6 hours, this kills any bacteria on the seed. then using a strainer i drain all the dirty water out and rinse with clean fresh water, i rinse the seed about 4 times .i cant stress enough how important this part is. after the seed has sat in the drainer for about half an hour i put the seed back into a clean glass jug and leave it sit on my sink (so i dont forget it)rinsing at least twice a day till it sprouts, as soon as you see the shoots starting to appear this is the best time to feed your birds as this is when it is most nutrisious, but again before you feed it out to your birds rince again and let it drain about half an hour so the seed is not sopping wet. this in its self is one of the best things you can feed your birds. i went from 4 eggs a sit with 3 or 4 hatching to 8 or 9 eggs a sit to 8 or 9 hatching. some people dont like using bleach but if you rinse right you wont have a problem or you could try avicleans.
fresh fruit and veg is allways good, but if you cant get that or its to exspencive the mixed pack of vegies you buy from coles, woolies ect with carrot, peas, beans, corn and broccoli cores work well for me.
there you go hope this of help to you
debbie
p.s egg biscuites is for canaries. p.ss i also put a dob of heinze baby food ie apple and pear ect on top for a bit of a treat they love it.
BUT REMEMBER THE HOTTER THE DAY THE QUICKER THE FOOD GOES OF IT WILL KILL YOU BIRDS SO TO AVOID THIS ONLY PUT IN ENOUGH FOOD FOR THEM TO EAT IN A COUPLE OF HOURS OR TAKE WHATS LEFT OUT AFTER A COUPLE OF HOURS.
