Hi Peter,

thank you for the nice advice.

A small review... I'm not sure if I understood properly.
1 - so you take 1 unrelated male to 1 unrelated female.
2 - The 1st generation go back to father and mother
3 - The 2nd generation is bred again to the original parents in point 1.
4- 3rd generation goes to fresh blood and we start again.

About mutations, you have a point. There are many cockatiel mutations but... most breeders are more concerned about breeding mutations and as many mutations possible in 1 bird. Quality of the birds (size, comformation, crest, etc..) are simply a secondary matter.

But.. nevertheless... I bet any amount of money that as soon as new mutations spawn they will be crossed over from red to yellow or viceversa (powerful gentleman is, Mr. Money).

About the program. I know some people using Zooeasy. I was thinking about it but then I got to know about a freeware program in Spanish. Originally designed for canaries, but you can use it for any species.
It's nice for those of us with bad memory haha

cheers / Pablo

3 - The 2nd generation is bred again to the original parents in point 1 or parends
4- 3rd generation goes to fresh blood and we start again grandparends

For example:

Male from me x female champion breeder. 1 ste line
Female from me x male from champion breeder. 2de line

Those two line breeding separately 3 or 4 generations and then crossover, can also earlier.
Now you have the bloodline from your own and the bloodline from the champion.
Combine this also 3 to 4 generations and then couple brother x sister and watch what comes out.

Only use the best of the best....there is no comprimise, less is bad, good is better

All right!

I understand it better now.

It is somehow what english budgie breeders do. They usually have 2 lines, and from time to time they outcross each line with birds from the other one.
