hi i have a female kakariki and had (before yesterday) a male kakariki im just wondering if someone could help me with why he died as i dont know,, on sunday he was completely happy wistelng and flying around like his usual self but then on monday he was really quiet and unactive,, all his feathers were puffed out he usually flys away if anyone goes near him but he never he just sat there and slighty moved over to the side so i took him out of the cage and he usually attacks me and cuts my fingers but this time he had no strength in him his bite was as hard as a baby birds bite so i held him for a few mins and checked to se if he has any strength in his legs but he never he had no grip at all i layed him on my bed but he managed to move acoss the bed and fell head first on to the floor so monday night kept him out of the cage and put him into a big warm box to keep him warm and put some food and water inside by the corners and layed sme bed nesting hair type stuff inside he started to eat a little and drank a little but then he went to the very corner of the box and sat facing the corner of the box and closed hs eyes fo abit,, then buried his head under his wing i sat up most the night watching him but eventually fell asleep myself then the next morning he was looking really bad worse tha the night before he had two fit kind of things his whole body started shaking really bad and his head was facing up so his beak was pointing up at the ceiling he did this while i was holding him in my hands so i put finger under his head to support his neck his neck was reallly stiff he looked as if he was fighting for his life trying to stay alive but was in pain my girlfriend started talking to him in a quiet gently tone of voice saying ow much she will always love him and that shes going to miss him and he was laying on my chest listening to her then she could see he was in alot of pain and told him to stop fighting and let himself go cause its for the best a few seconds later he passed away and ended the pain he was in.. that was yesterday when he died but i still cant figure out what caused this if someone has an answer please get back to me i would be so grateful to find out what im doing wrong. manythanks..

Hi Bird lover,

This is difficult to tell. It can be a pneumonia, enteritis.......The only way to find the cause is an autopsy.
