l have just had my 2nd cluster can l move them into a bigger nesting box now as the box is to small for a big cluster of 5.
The babies have started to get feathers and all heads are up l was a bit late to swap box for the bigger 1 l have.

Kakariki are very tollerant, but doing such things does entail some risk

I would leave the old nest box
Put a new box in and move the chicks over then watch the parents, see iff they sort it out ok

We have moved nesting boxes changed and stuff over the yrs, without any issues.

Hi B
personally when my five remaining chicks hatched in a box too small, I decided to chance them as removing them wasn't a fear that the parents wouldn't feed but more that the new nest would be cold as although the old nest is cramped and seemingly dirty it does retain the heat the chicks need.

rather save the new box for her next batch! (doesn't each day keep you on the edge of your seat watching them!)..:D

congrats and enjoy!

How big is the interal floor dimensions of the nesting box?

We dont have any issues with 5 or 6 chicks in 200mm x 180mm interal diamensions.

I should have asked that question before...sry

Thank you for all your advice the old box is 150mm x 180mm and the new box is 300mm x 200mm.
l have put the chicks into the new box and so far mum & dad are still feeding them the babies made a big noise when l moved them but looks good for now.
