Pip is about 10months old now, he likes to make hello squeak noises to my girlfriend but to me he just looks at me and squeaks now and then. But he likes to step up or sit on my shoulder. Thing is if I give him a seed to come up on my shoulder, he will take it then just fly off.
Any tips on how I could make him stay, I do take it straight back off him but then he gets it back and then flies high somewhere in the room.
Also he doesn't like to stay in one place, Ive read on some people comments on how their kaks like to chill / cuddle up a little bit. It be nice if Pip just chille d with me sometime instead of sitting on me for 20 secs then flying off.
I general a female pet is more suited to a male and visa versa.
Kakariki are not a "cuddly" bird...they do what they want when they want.
you will find those who do have a cuddly kakariki , they are cuddly when they want and have good reason to do so....or put anotherway they have been made emotionally dependant on the owner.
This sort of behavour has its downsides, like If one doesnt have time, goes on holiday etc, the pet will pine, often get sick, pluck feathers etc.
Issues that kakariki by nature are not prone to. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
As Steps says kakariki are not the cuddly kind of bird. They do socialize a lot but under their own special terms.
To give you an example, in about 4 years of keeping kakariki I haven't seen them preen each other ever. I have seen some of the youngsters preen a cockatiel for a few seconds and that's because cockatiels are very cheesy and demanding and they were born in the same aviaries.
When I go into the aviaries they perch around me and they aren't generally afraid, play with my shoelaces, bite my shoes etc... but they don't allow petting. Whereas cockatiels eventually perch on my hands and allow me to pet them while they are eating etc...
The good news is that the day you see him trying to feed you bobbing his head and flashing his eyes he choosing you as partner

Pab somes up very well, they are not cuddly but you can play games and interact with them very well, better than most other species.
To get them to play or any training, do it in a manner that is to their advantage to do so.
Start off with their curiosty athen build from there...
Far more fun than a cuddly bird. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'

they are basically fearles and very curious so that makes them very enjoyable and helps socializing
other species take a much longer time to accept the keeper and they don't have such a funny behavior _________________ AD ASTRA PER ASPERA
