Missing anything...with that attutude not really
Broccolli and Cali stems...
The meat/protien...your are cooking? like the leftovers from your meal table....including KFC but pull most of the coating off....and get a heavy cliever to chop up bones so they can at the marrow and cartilage.
Meat is best diced up loke the veggies.
The advice I was given was: Occasionally give them a piece me apple or carrot. Bullsh....:-S
Well, Ive had my kaks for a whole fortnight now.
Im suprised they have taken to the veggies etc so quick, which leads me to think the orginal breeder has feed them right, or close to it.
I can take a couple months to a yr to get kakariki who have only know 'seed occassional veg' to wean onto a good diet. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
Haha! Thanks, the attitude has gotten me far in life.
The original breeder was from london, so I dont really know too much about him unfortunately- but his birds seem fit, lively and healthy.
As for the proteins- yes, they were cooked and chopped. I personally dont eat meat or fish (which is why there is always going to be a huge amount of veg/fruit in the house) but, theyve had leftovers from Mister's tea. The kakariki literally back away from anything too 'meaty', especially the live meal worms- they even avoided the area of cage!!
I'll keep trying! Really glad to know i'm doing ok, so thanks Steptoe! :)
Ps- they also have cuttlefish and sharp sand grit at all times.
Today, pineapple is the new fruit. They seem to be enjoying the outer part more than the soft fruit! With this kind of very varied diet, do you think it necessary to add any extra suppliments? I havent as of yet, but what about, say, calcium for example??
3 words "varied, balanced and constant"
each as important as the other...365 days of the yr.
A couple high quality cat biskets every now and then doesnt hurt, and if they have cuttle fish, pumice and bones/cartiladge.
And Balanced is its no good feeding Ca without phosphorus, and no good feeding iron/protien without vit C one without the other nothing gets absorbed
Most of the minerals vit, etc are dependant on this "balance" just the same as us.
Another thing is what foods are in season..nature provides animals with the types of nutrition for each season..like winter Citric fruits ripen, Autumn high sugar and fat fruits , seeds. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
They get very excited when I give them their meals!
Same here, when they watch me arrive they go nuts and start dancing around the feeding trays. They give me hell to open the trays, especially some of the males (alpha?).
Steps, makes me happy to be part of this community when I see a new fella come up with an open mind, open eyes, open ears... very good for the future of kakariki in Europe and specially in UK to have members like Moko.
I wish I was a bit more open minded, it took me a while to adopt "the right ways".
Btw... where are Peter Wouters and Peter Wauben? they are being a bit lazy lately, maybe we have to spank them so they come out of stand-by mode.
