ahhh thats good then i did change his name to baby as helikes to be called that anyway he chirps nlooksround round mewhen i say hello baby .he also gets welli think its excited when he hears me get up in the morning or coming in when ive been out he like kaks very loud and runs around his cage. i let him out his cage for the first time today and he loved that had to hold his cage in the air for him to get back in but he went back no probs.,,,,glad i brought him hes lovely ive never had a kakiriki before it was his cheeky noise n the way he looked at me that made me by him only went in the pet shop to buy dog treats came out with baby ,cage n everything else he needed.
A very handsome little man. Next time you let him out let him have a bath now that is very comical to watch. I use a medium size roasting tin, with cool water (not freezing or to warm ). TOP TIP put the tray down first then fill it up as you will spill it if you try to carry a full tin. I fill it up as much as i can as mine love a full bath, in both the house and in the outdoor avairys. Put a towel down under the tin as they like to splash alot. He might not go to it straight away. Some people let their Kaks bath in the sink but remember to lock the outside door.
When mine have a bath ( Ive got 6 Kaks and over 70 Zebra finches that love a bath) i have to keep topping the water up. Happy bathing.
awww thank you so much guys you have been very helpful.let baby out again this morning and he was going nuts flying around the room scared me abit tbh thought he was gonna hit something but he lands on my curtain pole n sits watching tv theres only me in all day kids at school /college n my partner too will he start going on the floor as he only sits on the pole.as for baths i have one of those water dishes with like a lid on and he tryed bathing in that was funny watching him trying to put his leg into it so i gave him an old pudding bowl but he still trys to get in his water dish so took the lid of it n he managed to get his bum into it ive left the bath bowl in the bottom of his cage but he just drinks out of it cant win.other than that were doing ok so far hes spoilt n happy and loves attention and being talked to hes not even bothered about our dog.
There are threads and posts in these forums as to how to get them back into their cage, how to tame down, their nature toys etc
Its best to get in at the early stage rather than thingd start to get out of hand, then retrain habits behavour
To the left is a "quick search" box
When the kakariki are used to jumping off the side in, can only touch the bottom with tippy toes, and swim...
Or a bunch of them, swiming, flapping duncking, getting tipped in by a random flapping wing....All happening 1m away right next to the coffee table. Alpha male sitting watching over everything while the oppunist is on the perch behind the mesh after any tip bits 1/4m from ones shoulder. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
He will soon start to go on the floor. When mine were in the house years ago i put their bath down and a couple of grapes and just left them to it. After 5 mins they flew down and inspected everything, Kakis are very nosey little birds. After a good soaking in the bath they use to fly upto the curtain pools to dry and preen and then they went into their cage on their own.
As for the dog our Kakis would go and sit with her in her basket, and even walk on her back. We introduced our kaki to our dog so the dog didnt become jealous. Now all my kakis are outside and our dog always goes and sits watching them.
Enjoy little Harry he will make you laugh alot.
haha after i posted the last post nosey harry flew onto the floor he had a good nosey round and even tho ive cleaned up he found all sorts of bits then he flew onto the sofa its great watching him he found his reflection on my glass door on my tv stand and started chatting himself up haha bless him the dog came in and didnt even bother with just sniffed harry n walked of then harry made him jump by hopping across the floor i can see they will get on great....as for training got a lot of work to do with that yet hes still not used to my hand so wont sit on it just runs round thecage but he will take food when i put through the cage bars.
