looks like a male..the yeelow/red hybrid
Yes it will breed, but is a cross between the red crpwn and yellow crown species, and I would say that its not a throw back but been done in very recent times
Hybid is a species cross,, a mutation in a natural occuring gene in the species that throws things like piped in you other red crown
A huge problem has occure over the decades both in NZ and off shore of sourcing pure breed kakariki species.
In the last 5 yrs in NZ and the very strong anti attitude of breeders, we have sen a huge reduction in hybrids in captivity.
But overseas they keep on popping up due to irresponable breeders.
Kakariki are an endangered species, they are far too rare in wild , there fore shipping new stock around the world under CITES regulation and NZ government policy makes good pure stock impossible to source.
Im sorry to say in my book , and the attitude of responable breeders world wide...hybrids need to be destoryied ..period...get them right out of the breeding chain. _________________ My Spelling is Not Incorrect...It's 'Creative'
the pied looks like an adult male to me. Younger birds have a different head and body shape, can't really explain with words.
The other one looks like an hybrid male, more yellow-fronted like. I am not a big fan of culling overseas NZ because it's not such a threat to wildlife, so I would suggest keeping it but making sure he doesn't have a chance to breed. If you use that aviary as holding flight he will maybe make an excellent foster father to weaning chicks. I think.
Another option is finding someone that would like a pet companion.
Try to find a trustable breeder with good quality stock to source a female for your pied red-fronted cock.

This spring I housed 4 kakariki males with a few cockatiels, no nests, and the kakariki made 2 pairs. They fed each other and I saw courtship behavior, I just didn't see any mating.
So yes... eventually males may try to breed with another male.

As a curiosity I have a few male kakariki that are very fond of certain cockatiel males and will chase them around offering food and courting them.
But to reply to your question I don't believe cockatiels and kakariki are compatible as to produce offspring at all.
In a large aviary, you can even allow 1 pair of kakariki to breed with a colony of cockatiels, I did it with success in the past. The only problem being that sometimes kakariki are too active and can disturb brooding cockatiels.
By the way... I have a question, I don't know if just by chance you have wild cockatiels in your area. I would like to know from Aussies what are the reproductive habits of cockatiels, typical diets in the wild, etc...
And also... if there are big differences in size and color between wild and captive cockatiels.
I have been googling cockatiel, weiroo, quarrion, but didn't find much information about wild cockatiels, and I'm curious. Any other local names?

which cockatoos do you have around?
Sorry but can't see the pics, can you try and upload them again.
Don't get frustrated, when we all started using forums we had a hard time uploading pics. If you need assistance let me know.
To use the attachment function of the forum... when you edit or create a reply, go to the lower part, and hit "select file", and once you have selected it, hit ADD ATTACHMENT buttong. It should work.
About cockatiels yes, the noisier are usually the more dominant males. Contrary to what people say they aren't as peaceful and tolerant as it's said. I'm colonybreeding and sometimes they quarrel a bit.
I'll try to help you tell the sex of your cockatiels.
